Discover Gullane

Best known, perhaps, as the home of Muirfield, Gullane is a lovely village. Outstanding period houses stand at one end, with views across Gullane Golf Club towards East Lothian to the south, and the Firth of Forth to the north. New family homes are being created at the other end, with quaint cottages and Victorian villas in between. There is a picturesque village green (and play park) and a small children’s course.

Beaches

One of the most glorious beaches in Scotland is just five minutes walk from our apartment. The long stretch of golden sand is clean and safe. Other outstanding beaches, even more secluded, are no more than 20 minutes drive down the coast.

Shopping

The shops are situated on Main Street – the excellent butcher, greengrocer, delicatessen and winery are just two minutes from Ormiston House. There’s also a small, well-stocked supermarket, open until 10pm and licensed, and a dispensing chemist. For eating out, there are two excellent cafes, a new Thai restaurant and three local hotel / pubs. You can browse antique and interiors shops. And to pay for it all, the bank is just next door.

Around Gullane

The town of North Berwick (just 10 minutes away by car or bus) has a lovely harbour, beach walks and Scottish Seabird Centre. Both Myreton Motor Museum and The Museum of Flight are well worth the short drive.
